Someone told you "put it on Google Cloud" — and the sentence hung there, unexplained. Not what Google Cloud actually is, not what your share of it will cost every month, not who owns the account, and not whether GCP was even the right choice. This page answers those questions first, because the platform decision outlives the project: long after the deployment engagement ends, the bills, the account, and the architecture stay yours.

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is Google's rented infrastructure: virtual servers, managed databases, file storage, managed Kubernetes, and data and AI services, billed by usage. Tirupati Technologies is an independent studio — not a Google Cloud partner. We have no partner quotas to fill and no incentive to push GCP where it doesn't fit. Your GCP account is created in your name, and your cloud bills are paid to Google directly; we never resell cloud capacity.

Where Google Cloud earns its place

GCP is strongest in a few specific areas. When your project sits in one of them, the platform is an accelerator; outside them, it is just an expensive logo on the invoice.

  • Containerised applications at scale. Google created Kubernetes, and its managed version (GKE) remains the most mature in the industry. If your application ships as containers, GCP is a natural home.
  • Data-heavy workloads. BigQuery and the data-pipeline services handle analytics at a scale that would need a dedicated team elsewhere.
  • AI features in your product. Vertex AI and the managed model APIs let a small team ship AI-assisted features without building machine-learning infrastructure.
  • Small steady workloads. Cloud Run scales containerised services down to zero when idle — a seasonal website or an institute portal pays for actual use, not a server idling through the off-season.
  • Serving Indian users. The Mumbai region (asia-south1) keeps latency low and data in India for most Indian businesses.

Where GCP is the wrong call

  • A single brochure website or blog — a simple VPS or managed hosting is cheaper and easier to run.
  • A team already deep in AWS tooling — switching clouds mid-flight is rarely worth it.
  • Workloads that need AWS-only services or the deepest service catalogue — AWS still leads there.
  • A business that wants the simplest possible bill — GCP's pricing is fair but not the simplest to read, so the cost discipline below is non-negotiable.

We raise these before quoting because a wrong platform choice costs you every month for years. If your needs are simpler, we say so.

Cost-watch discipline, from day one

GCP bills by the second for what you consume. The practices that keep bills predictable:

  • Billing budgets with alerts. Set before the first resource is created, so spending drift triggers a notification — not an invoice surprise.
  • Labels on everything. Every resource gets project, environment, and owner labels; without them, you cannot tell what is driving the bill.
  • Right-sized starts. First deployments start modest and grow on evidence, not on the assumption that launch-day traffic needs launch-day capacity.
  • Scale-to-zero where it fits. Cloud Run and scheduled shutdowns for staging environments remove the biggest source of waste: idle capacity.
  • Storage lifecycle rules. Logs, backups, and old images move to cheaper storage or expire automatically instead of accumulating forever.

We describe the discipline, not figures: GCP pricing changes, and your cost depends on traffic, data, and architecture. Any estimate we give is itemised from your requirements, never a generic price.

What the GCP engagement includes

  • GCP account and project structure created in your name, with billing attached to you.
  • Service selection matched to the workload — the simplest GCP service that does the job, not the most impressive one.
  • Network design: VPC layout, private subnets for databases, firewall rules with only necessary ports open.
  • Managed database setup (Cloud SQL) with automated backups and a restore procedure that has been tested.
  • Application deployment with a repeatable process — staging validated first, then production.
  • Monitoring and alerting baseline: health checks, error visibility, uptime alerts.
  • Cost-alert configuration and a monthly cost-review habit you can actually keep.
  • Documentation and handover: architecture diagram, access inventory, and a runbook for common tasks.

Not included: your GCP bills (paid to Google directly), application code fixes, and ongoing management — which we offer separately, or your team runs in-house after handover training.

What you need to have

  • A working application in version control — built by us, your team, or a previous developer.
  • A domain name (we handle the DNS cutover with you).
  • Willingness to own the GCP account and billing in your name — this is how you keep control.
  • Someone on your side who can make go/no-go decisions during cutover.

The failure modes this prevents

  • Bill shock without a cause. Budgets, alerts, and labels from day one mean the invoice is explainable — the most common GCP complaint, designed out.
  • The overbuilt cluster. A full GKE setup for an application that needed Cloud Run — we match the service to the workload, in writing, before build.
  • Accounts nobody owns. Created in your name, with your billing, your access inventory — no orphaned projects billing a card nobody monitors.
  • Secrets in code. Credentials live in proper secret stores from the start, not in repositories or deployment scripts.
  • Backups never tested. The restore is performed and documented during the engagement, not discovered broken during an incident.
  • Staging that proves nothing. Releases are rehearsed on staging that mirrors production — so production surprises stay rare.

FAQs

Are you a Google Cloud partner?

No. Tirupati Technologies is an independent studio, not a Google Cloud partner — which means no partner quotas to fill and no pressure toward GCP when a simpler option fits. Your account is created in your name, and cloud bills are paid to Google directly; we never resell cloud capacity.

Who owns the GCP account and the data?

You do, entirely. The account, projects, databases, and backups live under your ownership; we work with scoped access during the engagement. The runbook we leave behind documents everything needed to operate the setup or move it to another provider.

GCP or AWS — how do we actually choose?

By workload, not by brand. GCP earns its place for containerised applications, data-heavy workloads, and AI features; AWS for the broadest service catalogue and teams already invested in it. If neither is needed, a simple VPS is the right answer and we say so. The "where it earns its place" section above is the short version of the advice we'd give you in a meeting.

How do we keep the monthly GCP bill under control?

Billing budgets with alerts set before anything is built, labels on every resource, right-sized starts, and scale-to-zero for idle capacity. We configure all of this during the engagement and walk you through the monthly review — the discipline matters more than any one-time optimisation.

Can you take over our existing GCP project?

Yes. We start with an audit — architecture, access configuration, and cost breakdown — then prioritise fixes by risk before changing anything. Common first fixes are billing-alert setup, access hygiene, and removing unused resources. You keep full ownership throughout.

Do we need DevOps staff after the engagement ends?

Someone needs to own the setup — either your team, trained during handover, or us under an ongoing arrangement. What doesn't work is nobody owning it. We help you choose the model that fits your team size, and document the routine tasks so the handover is real.
