Attendance Calculator

Most Indian colleges require 75% attendance to sit for exams — fall short and you risk being debarred. Enter total classes held and classes you attended to see your exact percentage, how many consecutive classes you must attend to climb back to 75%, or how many you can safely skip while staying above it.

Uses the standard 75% criterion. Your institution's exact rules (per-subject requirements, condonation limits) take precedence — verify with your college.

How it works

Percentage = attended ÷ held × 100

Classes needed for 75%: attending x more classes gives (attended + x) ÷ (held + x) = 0.75, so x = (0.75 × held − attended) ÷ 0.25, rounded up.

Safe bunks: skipping y classes keeps attended ÷ (held + y) ≥ 0.75, so y ≤ (attended − 0.75 × held) ÷ 0.75, rounded down.

Both assume you attend (or skip) every class from now on — one bunk resets the "needed" count.

Worked example

40 classes held, 28 attended:

  • Percentage = 28 ÷ 40 × 100 = 70% — below the bar
  • Needed = (0.75 × 40 − 28) ÷ 0.25 = 8 → attend the next 8 classes without missing one

With 36 attended instead (90%): safe bunks = (36 − 30) ÷ 0.75 = 8 classes can be skipped.

Understanding your results

Attendance is your current standing. Classes to attend for 75% is your recovery plan — miss even one and the number grows. Safe bunks is your buffer: spend it on genuine needs, not casual skipping, because illness and emergencies eat buffer fast.

Colleges sometimes count attendance per subject rather than overall — check whether your institution needs 75% in each subject.

Frequently asked questions

UGC guidelines and most Indian universities mandate 75% attendance to be eligible for semester exams. Falling short can mean detention — repeating the semester — regardless of marks.
