Split Bill Calculator

Group dinners, trips and shared orders all end with the same awkward math. Enter the total bill, how many people are splitting it and an optional tip percentage — the calculator adds the tip first, then divides fairly so everyone pays exactly the same. No arguments, no mental arithmetic.

Each person pays

₹400.00

Tip amount
₹0.00
Grand total
₹2,400.00

How it works

Tip = bill × (tip % ÷ 100)
Grand total = bill + tip
Per person = grand total ÷ people

The tip is added before splitting, so everyone shares it equally. Set tip to 0 to split the bare bill.

Worked example

Bill ₹2,400 split between 6 people with a 10% tip:

  • Tip = 2,400 × 10 ÷ 100 = ₹240
  • Grand total = 2,640
  • Each pays = 2,640 ÷ 6 = ₹440

Understanding your results

Each person pays is the collection amount — if it comes to paise (₹440.33), round to the nearest rupee and let the organiser absorb or gain the difference. The grand total should match what the restaurant charged plus your intended tip.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, in the standard approach — the tip is added to the bill first, then everything is divided equally. This calculator follows that convention.
