Tip Calculator

The bill arrives, someone suggests a tip, and everyone reaches for their phone. This calculator does it in seconds: enter the bill amount, tip percentage and number of people to see the tip, the grand total and exactly what each person pays. Useful for restaurants, food delivery and group outings across India.

10% is standard in India for good service.

Each person pays

₹275.00

Tip amount
₹100.00
Total with tip
₹1,100.00

How it works

Tip = bill × (tip % ÷ 100)
Total = bill + tip
Per person = total ÷ people

The tip is calculated on the pre-tax bill in most conventions — though in India, where service charge and GST are common, many people simply tip on the final bill for simplicity.

Worked example

Bill ₹1,000, tip 10%, 4 people:

  • Tip = 1,000 × 10 ÷ 100 = ₹100
  • Total = 1,100
  • Each pays = 1,100 ÷ 4 = ₹275

Understanding your results

Each person pays is the number to collect — round it to a convenient figure (₹275 → ₹275 exactly, or ₹300 if someone wants to be generous). Tip amount helps you sanity-check generosity; total is what the table owes together.

In India, tipping 5–10% at restaurants is customary for good service; many bills already include a service charge — check before tipping on top of it.

Frequently asked questions

5–10% of the bill is customary at restaurants for good service; 10% for excellent service. For food delivery, ₹20–50 flat is common. Always check whether a service charge is already included.
