TDEE = BMR × activity factor, where BMR comes from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. The standard activity multipliers:
- Sedentary (little exercise) — ×1.2
- Light (1–3 days/week) — ×1.375
- Moderate (3–5 days/week) — ×1.55
- Active (6–7 days/week) — ×1.725
- Athlete (twice daily) — ×1.9
These factors are population averages. Track your weight for 2–3 weeks at a fixed intake to calibrate your true TDEE — the scale beats any formula.
