CGPA to Percentage Calculator

Indian boards and universities report results as CGPA on a 10-point scale, but job forms, applications and cut-offs usually ask for a percentage. This calculator converts CGPA to percentage using the widely used ×9.5 multiplier — enter your CGPA and get the equivalent percentage in one step.

Your Cumulative Grade Point Average, e.g. 8.6.

Equivalent percentage

81.7%

CGPA × 9.5 (CBSE guideline).

The ×9.5 multiplier is the CBSE guideline — universities and boards differ. Always use your institution's official conversion for transcripts and applications.

How it works

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) prescribes a simple linear conversion:

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5

The 9.5 factor comes from CBSE's analysis of historical board results — it maps a CGPA of 10 to 95%, not 100%, because very few students score a perfect 100 in every subject. It is a guideline, not a universal law: many universities publish their own conversion tables.

Worked example

A CGPA of 8.6:

  • Percentage = 8.6 × 9.5 = 81.7%

On a resume or application form, you'd write 81.7% (or 82% if the form wants whole numbers).

Understanding your results

Equivalent percentage is your CGPA multiplied by 9.5, shown to one decimal place. It is an estimate for everyday use — applications, eligibility checks and quick comparisons.

Before using it anywhere official, check the conversion rule of the specific board or university involved. Some institutions use ×10, some use grade-band tables, and a few accept CGPA as-is. When in doubt, quote both: "8.6 CGPA (≈81.7%)".

Frequently asked questions

CBSE studied past board results and found that the average of the top scores mapped best to a 9.5 multiplier. A perfect CGPA of 10 converts to 95%, reflecting that 100% in every subject is exceptionally rare.
