CTC to In-Hand Salary Calculator

Your CTC is not your salary — it bundles employer PF, gratuity and other costs that never reach your bank account. Enter your CTC breakup, rent paid and city type to estimate your monthly in-hand pay, HRA exemption and income tax under the new regime.

Usually ~40% of CTC.

Needed for the HRA exemption.

City type

Monthly in-hand salary

₹94,268

Approximate take-home pay.

Annual income tax (new regime)
₹0
HRA exempt from tax
₹1,92,000
Gross salary (CTC minus employer costs)
₹11,55,312

Rough estimate only. Actual take-home depends on your full salary structure, state professional tax, variable pay, allowances and employer policies. Tax is computed under the new regime for FY 2025-26. This is not financial or tax advice.

How it works

From CTC to your bank account, step by step:

  1. Gross salary = CTC − employer PF (12% of basic, capped at ₹21,600/yr) − gratuity (4.81% of basic)
  2. HRA exempt = least of: HRA received · rent paid − 10% of basic · 50% of basic (metro) or 40% (non-metro)
  3. Income tax on (gross − HRA exempt) under new-regime FY 2025-26 slabs

Monthly in-hand = (Gross − income tax − employee PF − ₹2,500 professional tax) ÷ 12

Worked example

CTC ₹12,00,000, basic ₹4,80,000, HRA ₹2,40,000, rent ₹2,40,000/yr, metro city:

  • Employer PF = ₹21,600 (capped) · gratuity = ₹23,088 → gross = ₹11,55,312
  • HRA exempt = min(2,40,000 · 2,40,000 − 48,000 · 2,40,000) = ₹1,92,000
  • Taxable income = ₹8,88,312 → under ₹12 lakh, so 87A rebate makes tax ₹0
  • Monthly in-hand = (11,55,312 − 0 − 21,600 − 2,500) ÷ 12 = ₹94,268

Understanding your results

Monthly in-hand is the estimate of what actually lands in your account — CTC ÷ 12 would have suggested ₹1,00,000, so the gap is real. Annual income tax uses the new regime; HRA exempt shows how much of your HRA escapes tax thanks to rent paid. Gross salary is your CTC minus the employer-side costs.

Variable pay, LTA, meal allowances and state-specific professional tax can all shift the real number — use this to sanity-check an offer letter, not as a payslip.

Frequently asked questions

CTC includes costs your employer pays on your behalf — employer PF, gratuity accrual, insurance premiums — plus taxes and your own PF deduction. The gap of 15–25% between CTC ÷ 12 and in-hand is normal in India.
